Submitted Android Market apps reach 500 thousand, but denial rate is 37%

According to research2guidance, Android Market has passed the 500 000 apps submitted milestone last month, trailing only the App Store with its 600 000 submission.

Google's Android Market, however, has a much higher percentage of apps removed over time, compared with iOS and Windows Marketplace, which has the lowest removal rating. This is due to the fact that Android Market developers are much more prone to submitting trials, demos and other fluff that is gumming up the process and requires extra efforts to clean up:

The actual total number of applications published on the Android Market leapt to over 500,000 in September 2011. In the meantime, the Apple App Store stands at just over 600,000 successful submissions: just 20% more. But over 37% of the applications published were later removed from the Android Market for various reasons, whereas the Apple App Store has removed just 24% of published apps in comparison, as of the end of September.

Other interesting tidbits from the report include that Android currently has over 320 000 active apps to choose from, while September alone saw the record-breaking 42 000 new applications. Android Market also holds the record of the fastest growing app store, and most submissions per developer - 4.38 on average.
