Samsung Nexus Prime launched postponed

Google Ice Cream SandwichWell, we all expected the next era of Android to start tomorrow, 11 October. But the launch of the Samsung Nexus Prime handset has now been postponed at the very last minute.

A statement from both Samsung and Google reads: 'Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.'

No one is exactly sure what 'it is just not the right time' refers to, but speculation is that in the wake of Steve Jobs' death and with the possibility of the event clashing with a funeral, the two tech companies have decided it would be more respectful to push the new product back.

As for a new date, there's nothing confirmed as yet. According to The Next Web, a Samsung event is set to take place in London on 27 October, although neither company has given any indication that the Nexus Prime will be unveiled here. It's more likely to be a round-up of new Samsung handsets in Europe.

The bottom line is that we'll just have to sit tight. Both hardware and software are ready and the Christmas market awaits. With that in mind, the delay shouldn't be a long one.
